THE BAND
Established in September 1999, The Rites of Sound are a five-piece Melbourne based band. TROS play original music from hard rock, grungy, punky anthems to acoustic mellow ballads. The band members consist of Simon Daou (lead vocals and rhythm guitar), Rob Fickling (lead guitar and vocals), Brae Allen (rhythm guitar), Aaron Melder (bass guitar and vocals), and Josh Geoughan (drums).
Simon Daou
On lead vocals and rhythm guitar, is Simon Daou. Simon can sing virtually any song he likes. With a note range so versatile and much vaster than Mike Patton, Simon could sing in anything from The Beatles to Michael Jackson to The Offspring to Korn to Celine Dion. During live performances, Simon spends half his time of stage as sings walking up and down bars, jumps into the crowd, and definately puts on a good show. Simon sings with plenty of confidence and always has a joke or two about his fellow band members on stage.
Robert Fickling
On lead guitar and vocals is Robert Fickling. He is most dedicated and determine guitarist to graze the face of the earth. He loves the spotlight, especially when he lets his solo's rip on his 1964 Gibson SG, which no doubt are the absolute zest to the songs. Rob influences from Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, The Angels, The Living End, Guns 'n' Roses and Pearl Jam. The is no guitarist any hard rock band would rather have than Rob, he has a minimum of 6hours per day of practicing and cannot sleep a wink at night unless his Gibson lies beside him at night.
Brae Allen
On rhythm guitar is the latest edition to the Rites of Sound, Brae Allen. Brae is the soul of the music keeping the whole band in line. Through his Marshall JCM 2000 amp, he electrifies a perfect rhythm and feel to all our songs. Brae's influences consist of Rage Against the Machine, Faith No More, Pearl Jam, Collective Soul and The Smashing Pumpkins. Brae plays aiming at a high level of professionalism and perfection but meanwhile enjoys his music.
Aaron Melder
On bass guitar and vocals is Aaron Melder. Aaron is always on the move on stage whether it is running, jumping or jigging while he plays. With his diverse intense pumping & slapping bass lines, he needs a high level of concentration. His influences consis t of Faith No More, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Pearl Jam, Green Day, and Rage Against The Machine. Aaron always has a few drinks with him on stage and is always happy to have many more drinks after playing (if he can handle more).
Josh Geoghegan
On drums is Josh Geoughan. Josh is a fantastic drum mer for any type of music you throw at him. He composes the perfect beat for all our songs which have an immense variety. Josh's talent combined with his DW kick ass kit, and his elaborate drum fills, draws the crowd's attention and blows them away. Josh's influences include Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Silverchair and Powderfinger. In many bands the drummer goes unnoticed, but with Josh's skill's, he is a huge part of the spotlight and is undoubtably the funniest and sexiest member of the band.
